Generally compatible:

• Mineral oil – obviously compatible.
• Wax – beeswax, carnauba, or paste wax can be applied over the conditioner, although the surface should be wiped very well first.
• Oil/wax mixtures – generally compatible.
• Additional coats of the Surface Conditioner – compatible.

Finishes I would NOT recommend applying directly over it:

• CA glue finishes
• Lacquer
• Shellac
• Polyurethane
• Most water-based finishes
• Other film-forming finishes

The reason is primarily the mineral oil. It can remain in the wood and interfere with adhesion and curing of a finish that is intended to form a hard film.

An important distinction

If you’re using the Surface Conditioner while sanding—for example, putting a small amount on the wood to lubricate the sanding process—the amount remaining in the wood may be considerably less than if you’re deliberately saturating the piece with the conditioner.
